ALBION CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO APPLY FOR USDA LOAN FOR NEW EMERGENCY SERVICES BUILDING

July 8, 2008

Albion city government is hoping a decision Monday night by the Albion
City Council will eventually lead to a new emergency services building
that could house the city’s fire trucks and provide a permanent
place
for Albion Community Ambulance.

By a 6-0 vote the Council authorized Mayor William Wheaton to sign on
to an application requesting a USDA loan for $700,000 that would fund
a
new building in the 200 block of North Clinton Street.

City officials have been contemplating a new site to house the Albion
Department of Public Safety’s fire trucks for some time now. The
department has outgrown the current site squeezing three fire engines
into a
tight space that limits the department as to what kind of fire engines
it can house.

Albion Community Ambulance came into the picture earlier this year
after losing their longtime home behind the old Trillium Hospital to
current property owner and tenant Narconon Stone Hawk. The ambulance
service
has since found temporary quarters on Superior Street, but would like
to be able to move into a more suitable location.
