Lois Fennimore, Parma, heard about Angel Food in mid June and
immediately thought it would be a benefit to the Parma community.
“Neighbors
helping neighbors,” Lois said, “was the first thought that popped into
my
mind.”
And that began her quest to gather a team and set the wheels in motion
to make Angel Food available in the Parma area.
Fennimore accomplished that in short order. The Parma United Methodist
Church agreed to be a host site, the Albion Free Methodist Church
offered to help Lois get Angel Food off the ground and she also
recruited
friends to serve on the Angel Food team.
If you like to eat and save money, you are qualified to order Angel
Food! Simple as that.
What is Angel Food? Simple. It is a monthly food buying opportunity.
For $30 per month, people get a basic unit of frozen, fresh and
packaged
foods of grocery store quality and packaging. The retail value of the
food is said to be significantly higher… as much as $60. Add-on meat
and produce packages are also available. So, there is convenience and
money saving as well as getting together with neighbors.
Angel Food is not like the food co-ops where bulk food is divided on
site. The food comes packaged in the sizes listed on the monthly menu.
Nor is Angel Food like a food pantry where there are qualifications.
Everyone can participate!
The food is ordered once a month, with orders due on specific dates
about mid-month and picked up at the end of the month. Orders must be
paid
for when placed by cash, money order, EBT or via credit card online.
Sorry, no checks.
www.parma-angelfood.com has more information (including the current
month’s menu) about Parma’s Angel Food community service as well as
easy,
24/7 ordering.
Parma’s orders were placed in early July, through the Albion Free
Methodist Church. They will be picked up on Saturday, July 26 from 9
to 10
am at the Hunn Community Room, 100 E. Main St., Parma. All are welcome
to stop by, meet Lois Fennimore, see what’s offered and learn more
about
Angel Food on July 26th.
The DCC Club of Parma young women will be going door to door giving
residents a flyer announcing the Parma Angel Food effort and inviting
them
to participate. Some area churches and businesses will also have the
flyers or order forms available.
Lois said, “we can always use more volunteers, especially on pick-up
day. It’s fun and a chance to meet and greet your neighbors.”
For Albion residents order forms and other information may be picked up
at the Albion Free Methodist Church, 1014 Maple St. (517/629-8346); or
at the Christ Apostolic Church, 503 N. Superior St. (517/629-6857.
Order forms may also be available through other area churches and
organizations, pickup, however is only on specific dates at the Albion
Free
Methodist and Christ Apostolic churches.
