BROWN BAG MOVIE WEDNESDAY FEATURES THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE ‘MOUNT
RUSHMORE’
The Albion District Library Brown Bag Movie for Wednesday, July 30 will
feature the American Experience ‘Mount Rushmore .’

High on a granite cliff in South Dakota’s Black Hills tower the huge
carved faces of four American presidents. Together they constitute the
world’s largest sculpture. Using the sculptor’s home videos,
archival footage and still photographs, and beautiful original
photography,
MOUNT RUSHMORE tells a story that is as bizarre and wonderful as the
monument itself. It is the story of an obsessed, hyperactive artist;
of
massive public works in a time of economic depression; and of dozens
of
ordinary Americans who found themselves suspended off a cliff face
working on what some called a monstrosity and others a masterpiece. By
PBS
Home Video, the film is one hour in length.

Bring your lunch; the Library provides coffee and cookies.

Albion District Library is located at 501 S. Superior Street in
downtown Albion. Call (517) 629-3993 for information or visit

HENNA PARTY FOR TEENS AT THE ALBION DISTRICT LIBRARY MONDAY, AUGUST 4
The Albion District Library is having a Henna Party for Teens at 2
p.m. on Monday, August 4.

Henna has been used for hundreds of years as a form of temporary body
painting in India and the Middle East. Henna paste is made from
dried,
ground, and sifted leaves usually mixed with lemon juice or tea,
sugar,
and essential oils. It is piped onto the skin and allowed to dry,
during which it stains the skin for 1-3 weeks in the desired design,
in the
style of a temporary tattoo. We’ll have designs and stencils
available. There will be refreshments and an India-theme movie to
watch while
the henna dries.

This event is for * teens only * (ages 13-19), and requires a * signed
parental permission slip * available at the Library front desk.

The Albion District Library is located at 501 South Superior Street in
Albion. Call (517) 629-3993 or visit www.albionlibrary.org for more

GORDON MARTIN BUILDERS BEGINS DEMOLITION-REBUILDING OF ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH

July 30, 2008

Members of St. James’ Episcopal Church, 119 West Erie, Albion are
relieved that the pre-reconstruction investigation has finally stopped
finding previously unrealized damages from the May 10, 2007, sanctuary
fire. This series of discoveries had delayed the reconstruction
process.
Finally, Gordon Martin Builder has been able to begin the demolition
needed to make the reconstruction possible.

Faithful St. James’ Episcopal Church members pried handmade
square-headed nails out of the interior of the burned sanctuary last
year, and
as a Restoration Fund project have placed them in handsome clear
plaques
(labeled “St. James’ Fire 2007″) which are suitable for desk or wall
display. A plaque with one nail is $50 ($40 tax-deductible donation).
A plaque with three nails is $100 ($85 tax-deductible donation).
These plaques, and T-shirts at $10 each, will be available from
Robina
Quale-Leach at the Restoration Fund Items table at St. James’
Rectory
(311 Irwin Avenue) at the annual Irwin Avenue Yard Sale on Saturday,
August 9, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
